How to Turn Off Auto Dub on YouTube
Recently, YouTube has started playing auto-dubbed versions of videos, especially Shorts and trending content. Many users prefer to watch in the original language, but unfortunately, YouTube doesn’t yet provide a global “disable auto-dub” button.
Here are some ways to fix it:
1. Change the Audio Track Manually
- While watching a video, click/tap the ⚙️ Settings icon.
- Select Audio track (if available).
- Switch to the Original language to hear the real audio.
2. Use Subtitles Instead of Dubbing
- Go to Settings → Playback & performance (on web) or App settings (on mobile).
- Turn on Always show captions.
- Forcing subtitles often makes YouTube default to the original audio.
3. Change Language or Location
- Open Settings → General → Language / Location.
- Switch to United States or another region where dubbing is uncommon.
- This usually stops YouTube from serving auto-dubbed audio.
4. Use Browser Extensions (Desktop)
- On PC/laptop, you can install third-party extensions that auto-select your preferred audio track.
- This isn’t official, but it works until YouTube adds a permanent setting.
Conclusion
Right now, there’s no official option to permanently disable YouTube auto-dub. The best workarounds are changing the audio track, forcing subtitles, switching region settings, or using a browser extension.
